MSU Law Trial Team Advances to National Competition
Michigan State University College of Law topped 20 teams from 10 other law schools in Michigan and Ohio to win the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition regional event held February 6–8 in Detroit.
MSU Law had two teams advance to the semi-final rounds of the competition. The two-person teams were comprised of Kean Zimmerman and Vanessa Henderson and Katie Oberer and Aaron Chapman.
Oberer and Chapman beat Wayne State University in the final round to become 2015 National Trial Competition Finalists. Patrick Duff, ’11, coached the team.
The team advances to the national competition in Houston, Texas, on March 11-15 to face 28 other teams from across the country. This is the second year in a row that MSU Law has advanced to nationals.
“These students worked hard, and i
t paid off,” said Veronica Valentine McNally, director of trial advocacy. “We are proud of their success and look forward to the opportunity to compete again in March.”
The MSU Law Moot Court and Advocacy Board, which consists of a select group of second- and third-year students, competes against other law schools in appellate and trial competitions hosted by law schools throughout the United States.
